Handmade Valentines Cards

Handmade Valentine’s Cards are not only beautiful and artistic, they are also fun to make. And since “actions speak louder than words,” handmade Valentine’s cards are a true reflection of feelings because action needs to be taken to make them. Therefore I suggest that you speak your love this Valentine’s Day through your actions by presenting your special Valentine with a handmade Valentine’s card.

Handmade Valentine’s cards are surprisingly easy to make, and your beloved Valentine will feel that special kind of love that you are trying to transmit through the card but will never realize that it only took you a few minutes to make.

All you need are the following simple and basic materials. Of course, some of the cards may need some additional materials:

  • Red, white and pink note cards, card stock or vellum.
  • Symbols of love such as hearts, cupids, arrows, flowers, and doves. (You can either buy they ready made or draw they on multi-color card stock or scrapbook paper with a stencil and cut them out yourself).
  • Red, white and pink ribbons.
  • Glue stick or thick craft glue.
  • Scissors (regular).
  • Decorative scissors (scallop or wave).
  • Pencil.

1. Begin by writing your love message either by hand or printing it through your computer. If you find yourself at a loss for words, feel free to look at some professional cards on the Internet or at a local store.

2. Now comes the creative portion of your project where you will be cutting and pasting to your heart’s desire. You can apply one of the symbols or a combination with or without the ribbons.

The possibilities are endless but here are a few suggestions:

- Frame Cards:

  • Handwrite of print your love message on the inside of the card.
  • Get a pretty frame whose size will fit on the front flap of a folded card.
  • Glue your picture or a picture of you and your Valentine onto the front flap of the card.
  • Discard the back of the frame and glue the frame itself over the picture.
  • Decorate the inside of the card with some love symbols.
  • Form a bow from one of the ribbon or a combination and glue to the frame
  • You are done. Congratulations.

- Metal Accent Card:

  • Handwrite of print your love message on the inside of the card.
  • Decorate the inside of the card with some love symbols and sprinkle some glitter.
  • Cut out a heart with the scallop or wave scissors and glue to the front of the card.
  • Sprinkle some glitter on the front of the card.
  • Decide on a brief message on the heart that you had applied to the front of the card (“I Love You!” or “Be My Valentine”, etc.) and spell that message out with metal eyelet letters, one at a time.
  • Done. Good job!

- Romantic Card:

  1. Handwrite of print your love message on the inside of the card. A heartfelt poem would be nice.
  2. Decorate the inside of the card with some love symbols.
  3. Find a picture of a romantic scene from a magazine or the Internet and glue to the front of the card.
  4. Use the scallop scissors to give the entire card decorative edging.
  5. Decide on a brief message on the heart that you have applied to the front of the card (“I Love You!” or “Be My Valentine”, etc.) and spell that message out with plastic lettering in colors that will show against the picture.
  6. Take one of the ribbons or a combination and glue it pleated around the edge of the picture. End it with a bow in one of the corners.
  7. See how easy that was?

You have just mastered the art of handmade Valentine’s cards, as I knew you would.
