Valentines Weddings
So you are planning a Saint Valentine’s wedding? Of course, you realize, that there is really nothing unique or original about getting married on Saint Valentine’s Day for it has been done many time through the years. It could even be seen as a cliché. There is, however, a certainly extra element of romance in it. And to retain that effect I would suggest that you pay attention to a few small details that could make a big difference.
- Start setting the atmosphere and establishing the theme within your wedding invitations by asking your guests to join you in “celebrating love, romance and devotion” on your Saint Valentine’s Day wedding.
- The Saint Valentine’s bride should opt for an old fashioned or a classic style dress and the groom should be wearing a black tuxedo. Another possible option is a bit more radical but it will retain the Saint Valentine’s Day ambiance. The bride could wear a white dress accented with red roses with a few pinned to her chignon as well and the groom could have a red rose pinned to his lapel.
- Whether you opt for the old fashioned or the radical attire, the bride should wrap a bright red shawl around her arms and carry a bouquet of red roses. The bride’s maids should wear dresses in an assortment of pinks while the groomsmen should wear red ties and an assortment of tiny red and white roses in their buttonholes.
- Be sure that the reception is being held in a place that allows lighting many candles that will set the mood, preferably a garden or a Victorian greenhouse filled with blossoming flowers and soft lighting. A country inn that provides a hall with a roaring fireplace and comfortable sofas will do very nicely as well. If you want to go with a dramatic setting, choose a castle or a historical mansion.
- During the ceremony, ask other married couples to stand up and reaffirm their own love and devotion to one another.
- Arrange for music that will fit the atmosphere that you are trying to create. A long medley of tender love songs and a string quarter would be perfect. For dancing, tangos and waltzes are romantic perfections but please take a few lessons before your wedding if you do not already know how to dance them.
- Roses tend to be very expensive in February and especially during and around Saint Valentine’s Day. Feel free to select other red, pink and white flowers to decorate the entire space of your wedding party, whether it is indoors or out.
- Spark your guests with the same passion that you are already feeling by feeding them foods that have been considered aphrodisiacs for hundreds of years in various parts of the world. Examples of such foods are oyster, asparagus hollandaise, caviar topped roasted new potatoes, shrimp with garlic, almonds, tomatoes with mozzarella and basil, cucumber salad, chicken with mole sauce (this is a Mexican chocolate sauce), chocolate covered strawberries and ginger tea.
- Give each one of your guests heart shaped boxes of candy or a chocolate rose or a parchment scroll with your favorite love poem. Be sure to attach to anyone of these gifts a note that say “Thank you for being our Valentine.”
- Instead of numbering your tables, name them after famous romantic couples; real or fictional.
